Film Review: I Choose You

"I Choose You" is a heartfelt exploration of love, resilience, and breaking societal barriers. The story of Noah, a university freshman who falls deeply in love with Sarah, a Deaf woman, is both touching and thought-provoking. As Noah learns American Sign Language to connect with Sarah, the film invites viewers to embrace a world where love transcends language and challenges preconceptions about human differences. The pivotal conflict, where Noah must choose between his parents’ bigotry and his own unwavering belief in love and acceptance, offers a powerful message about courage and authenticity.

Kaylah Pollock, who not only directed the film but also stars as Sarah, delivers a fine performance that is both sincere and compelling. Tanner McNatt, as Noah, complements her beautifully; their chemistry feels authentic and powerful, grounding the film in emotional truth. Together, they bring to life a relationship that is as tender as it is inspiring. While the acting is not without its challenges, their performances leave a lasting impression and are especially impressive given the film’s limited resources.

The strength of I Choose You lies in its quiet moments. The silence, where Sarah and Noah communicate through American Sign Language, carries a unique power that transcends words. These scenes, with their intimacy and vulnerability, are where the film truly shines, allowing viewers to experience the beauty of their connection on a profoundly human level.

I Choose You is not just a film about love. it's a celebration of connection, acceptance, and the courage it takes to challenge societal norms for the sake of what truly matters. It reminds us that the strongest bonds are built on understanding and respect, and that the quiet moments often speak the loudest. This is a film with its heart in the right place, and its story will stay with you long after the credits roll.

Kaylah Pollock is an American actress with a passion for storytelling and a dedication to the craft. Kaylah is known for her performance in “Blessing of Blood” and “Infirm” which was awarded 2nd and 3rd place in the Guerilla Showcase at the HorrorFest Festival. Kaylah recently began writing and directing her own films. Her film “Why Did You Ignore Me?” was presented at the Guerilla Showcase at the HorrorFest Festival and her most recent film "I Choose You" is currently on a festival run.
